After working for an educational institution for 17 years, Deanna was laid off from her position. Although she held a bachelor’s degree, she lacked the specific skills needed to advance in her career. She had always been interested in office administration in a new field but was unsure of how to transition into a more professional, long-term, role.
Deanna came across the WIOA program through her local career center and decided to apply. Through the On the Job Training (OJT) program, Deanna secured an administrative assistant position at Doug Walker – Country Financial. The job involved managing client files, assisting with claims processing, obtaining insurance licensing, and supporting the company’s customer service operations. The WIOA program’s partnership with local businesses helped Deanna find a job where her newly gained skills were used immediately, and where her career prospects looked bright.
Within her first year, Deanna has proved to be an invaluable asset to the company. She has quickly adapted to the demands of the insurance industry and took on more responsibilities, including managing high-level correspondence and assisting with policy renewals. Deanna’s story is a testament to the power of training, support, and hard work. She is not only building a solid career but also helping her company grow and succeed in the competitive insurance industry.
